In 2021, the UK Government outlined its ambition for the country to become “the leading global hub in Life Sciences”. The new government has reinvigorated the emphasis on life science as part of the one health approach. To enable this vision and provide accessible guidance on the construction of science buildings, we have come together as a consortium of experts to provide construction guidance to set up the building of science standards.
We brought together a consortium of experts in the Life Sciences sector to address the question. Recognising the need for a common language and approach to assist in the sector, we want to enable all the industry players to communicate.
Our general construction standards include nomenclature and definitions for terms such as "lab-ready", "lab-enabled", all aligned to the RICS New Rules of Measurement. Apart from our science standards, our periodic publications share guidance and content on current topics, such as Operational Readiness, Sustainability and manufacturing. Our Guidance publication is updated annually to ensure it remains in line with the market evolving standards .
